4 Tips to Squeeze Every Cent of Profit From Your Pay-Per-Click Marketing

I love pay-per-click marketing! There are few forms of online advertising that offer such complete control over where you spend your advertising dollars.

But despite the ability to control Google Adwords and Yahoo! Search Marketing gives you over your ads -- how much you spend on them, where and when they appear, etc. -- I'm constantly meeting savvy Internet marketers who are wasting tons of unnecessary money on their pay-per-click campaigns because they are either...

a) Making "okay" money from their campaigns and too lazy to do the work to make them really successful

-- or --

b) They just don't know any better!

No matter how you're doing with YOUR pay-per-click efforts, here are 4 tips that you can start applying today to fine-tune your campaigns and boost your ROI.

Tip #1: Keywords... keywords... keywords!

Even if your business targets an extremely narrow niche market, your campaign should begin with at least 100 keywords.

I have yet to come across a niche market for which we couldn't find that many keywords for the initial round of testing. In fact, the majority of businesses I deal with start in the range of 500-1000 keywords!

If it sounds like a huge challenge to come up with that many keywords, don't worry.

With tools like Wordtracker and Google's Keyword Evaluator, you don't have to come up with the keywords on your own. All you have to do is identify a core list of keywords and then let technology do the work for you.

Now, is every single one of those keywords going to make you money? Nope! Some will bomb horribly.

But I'll talk about how you deal with that in a second...

Tip #2: Never stop testing new ads

When you first start your pay-per-click campaigns, you should be writing at least five different ads for each keyword group.

Note: a "keyword group" is a cluster of closely related keywords that say exactly the same thing, in slightly different ways.

For example, a keyword group for a site promoting a bed and breakfast in El Paso, Texas could include:

El Paso bed and breakfast

El Paso bed and breakfasts

Bed and breakfast El Paso

Bed and breakfasts El Paso Texas
El Paso BandB

BandBs El Paso

B and Bs El Paso

B and B El Paso Texas

B and Bs El Paso Texas
El Paso bed and breakfasts

B and B El Paso

El Paso Texas bed and breakfast

Bed and breakfast El Paso Texas


... and so on.

(As you can see, the variations between each keyword phrase are very slight.)

Once you've written your five plus ads for your keyword group, run them all at the same time. Keep them going until you get enough impressions to determine which one is the winner -- and then roll out the winning ad across the entire group.

Congratulations... you now have a winning ad!

But don't stop now... continue to work on your ads and try to come up with one that will beat your current front runner. If you beat your winning ad, roll-out the new ad across your keyword group and then try and beat that ad.

Then keep on repeating this testing cycle indefinitely, to ensure you're always running the best possible ad you can.

Tip #3: Design targeted landing pages for each keyword group

Nothing will turn a visitor into a customer faster than a message that tells them exactly what they want to hear. So, if I have multiple keyword groups that target different themes, each ad should be driving visitors to a landing page with salescopy that reflects the theme of a single keyword group.

For example, if different themes an El Paso bed and breakfast owner could try targeting might be:

"family friendly bed and breakfast el Paso" or "el Paso couples bed and breakfast"

The first ad could lead to a landing page that emphasized all of the great family activities available in and around the bed and breakfast, while the second one could talk about how great the same bed and breakfast is as a romantic getaway.

By testing out different themes like this, you can see which theme gets the most sales and focus more of your PPC dollars there!

Tips #4: Detailed tracking

If you want to get the most bang for every PPC buck you spend, then simply tracking the overall effectiveness of your campaigns won't do. You need to track the effectiveness of every individual keyword if you want to crank every cent out of your PPC efforts!

Like I said in Step #1, you will be starting your campaign with hundreds of keywords. But not all of those keywords will be profitable. It's your job to weed out the unprofitable ones right away.

There are four different keyword performance scenarios you will encounter:
  1. Keywords that aren't driving any traffic

    After you've tested a few different ads to confirm these keywords are ineffective, get rid of them. They're useless. Even though they're not costing you any money, they are cluttering up your campaign.

  2. Keywords that are driving traffic -- but no sales

    This is where a lot of your wasted PPC dollars go! If you find this happening to you, look at your ad and make sure your landing page relates back to the keyword.

    Does the landing page meet the expectation your ad creates? If yes, then get rid of the keyword. It's only costing you money.

  3. Keywords that are driving traffic and opt-ins -- but no immediate sales

    If you are a savvy marketer, chances are you have a good autoresponder sequence that builds a relationship with your subscribers and eventually converts them to sales.

    If this is the case, I would keep these keywords. The ROI is not immediate, but don't worry -- it will come!

    In fact, if you are trying to sell a higher-ticket product through PPC without much success, your entire marketing campaign may be more effective if it's based around driving leads to an opt-in form or squeeze page and then working up to the sale as you establish a relationship with your susbscribers.

  4. Keywords that are driving traffic and sales

    Obviously these are the keywords we want to keep... but status quo is not enough!

    You need to track the conversion of each individual keyword. Some will convert higher than others, which will ultimately dictate how much you can bid on those keyword and still remain profitable.

    In other words, if I have a top performing keyword and I am not ranking in the top 3-4 positions, I may want to spend more to increase the position, my clickthrough ratio, and sales.
So there it is! Four strategies you can apply today. If you are already doing all of these, great!

However, if you are missing just one, there is a very good chance you are missing out on sales. And you could end up throwing good money after bad!

Imagine advertising a full page advert in a magazine which will cost in excess of $5,000, not to mention the cost that may come from hiring a professional marketer to compile a reasonable advert to get you 5 seconds of the readers' attention.

You are much better off to promote through "education" than putting together a banner or an advert and hoping someone will take notice. You do not need to be a brilliant writer or rocket scientist to get published. Just be genuine, and offer useful and interesting content to your reader. Most importantly don't sound like an advertisement; be helpful, practical, and your effort will eventually pay off.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

If you would like to write for a specific magazine, before submitting an article to be considered, take time to do the research first and get to know the publication. If you take the hit and miss approach, you will be spending a lot of time and see no real result. Go to the newsagency, grab hold of the publication, read through it and ask yourself the following questions:

1. Frequency:

Is the target a bi-monthly, monthly or a quarterly publication? If you submit something now and gets accepted, it will not appear in the next issue. Magazines often work 3 to 6 months in advance, so get prepared in advance.

2. Topic/theme:

Flip through the magazine and see what topics they cover. If they already covered staff retention, it's very unlikely they will consider the same topic again for a while. Also look into their archive and see what they covered in the past. If you can take a new approach to an old topic you'll still have a good chance.

3. Target audience:

The best way to determine their target audience is by looking at the advertisement, you may not always trust what they say in an ad, but you can be certain they have done their homework in researching the demographics.

4. Length of an article:

Editors prefer an article between 600 - 850 words. Only for a feature article, they will consider something between 1000 to 1500 words.

5. Tone/style:

Some publication prefer a formal approach in the third person, other publication may prefer a more conversational style. For journals, it is always very formal and academic. For magazines, they prefer to use case studies to illustrate a point.

After doing all the home work and before sending your article to be considered, pay 100% attention to the title and the first paragraph. If the first paragraph is not compelling enough, you can certainly expect that the editor is not going to look further.

Then keep on repeating this testing cycle indefinitely, to ensure you're always running the best possible ad you can.

Tip #3: Design targeted landing pages for each keyword group

Nothing will turn a visitor into a customer faster than a message that tells them exactly what they want to hear. So, if I have multiple keyword groups that target different themes, each ad should be driving visitors to a landing page with salescopy that reflects the theme of a single keyword group.

For example, if different themes an El Paso bed and breakfast owner could try targeting might be:

"family friendly bed and breakfast el Paso" or "el Paso couples bed and breakfast"

The first ad could lead to a landing page that emphasized all of the great family activities available in and around the bed and breakfast, while the second one could talk about how great the same bed and breakfast is as a romantic getaway.

By testing out different themes like this, you can see which theme gets the most sales and focus more of your PPC dollars there!

Tips #4: Detailed tracking

If you want to get the most bang for every PPC buck you spend, then simply tracking the overall effectiveness of your campaigns won't do. You need to track the effectiveness of every individual keyword if you want to crank every cent out of your PPC efforts!

Like I said in Step #1, you will be starting your campaign with hundreds of keywords. But not all of those keywords will be profitable. It's your job to weed out the unprofitable ones right away.

There are four different keyword performance scenarios you will encounter:
  1. Keywords that aren't driving any traffic

    After you've tested a few different ads to confirm these keywords are ineffective, get rid of them. They're useless. Even though they're not costing you any money, they are cluttering up your campaign.

  2. Keywords that are driving traffic -- but no sales

    This is where a lot of your wasted PPC dollars go! If you find this happening to you, look at your ad and make sure your landing page relates back to the keyword.

    Does the landing page meet the expectation your ad creates? If yes, then get rid of the keyword. It's only costing you money.

  3. Keywords that are driving traffic and opt-ins -- but no immediate sales

    If you are a savvy marketer, chances are you have a good autoresponder sequence that builds a relationship with your subscribers and eventually converts them to sales.

    If this is the case, I would keep these keywords. The ROI is not immediate, but don't worry -- it will come!

    In fact, if you are trying to sell a higher-ticket product through PPC without much success, your entire marketing campaign may be more effective if it's based around driving leads to an opt-in form or squeeze page and then working up to the sale as you establish a relationship with your susbscribers.

  4. Keywords that are driving traffic and sales

    Obviously these are the keywords we want to keep... but status quo is not enough!

    You need to track the conversion of each individual keyword. Some will convert higher than others, which will ultimately dictate how much you can bid on those keyword and still remain profitable.

    In other words, if I have a top performing keyword and I am not ranking in the top 3-4 positions, I may want to spend more to increase the position, my clickthrough ratio, and sales.
So there it is! Four strategies you can apply today. If you are already doing all of these, great!

However, if you are missing just one, there is a very good chance you are missing out on sales. And you could end up throwing good money after bad!

Imagine advertising a full page advert in a magazine which will cost in excess of $5,000, not to mention the cost that may come from hiring a professional marketer to compile a reasonable advert to get you 5 seconds of the readers' attention.

You are much better off to promote through "education" than putting together a banner or an advert and hoping someone will take notice. You do not need to be a brilliant writer or rocket scientist to get published. Just be genuine, and offer useful and interesting content to your reader. Most importantly don't sound like an advertisement; be helpful, practical, and your effort will eventually pay off.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

If you would like to write for a specific magazine, before submitting an article to be considered, take time to do the research first and get to know the publication. If you take the hit and miss approach, you will be spending a lot of time and see no real result. Go to the newsagency, grab hold of the publication, read through it and ask yourself the following questions:

1. Frequency:

Is the target a bi-monthly, monthly or a quarterly publication? If you submit something now and gets accepted, it will not appear in the next issue. Magazines often work 3 to 6 months in advance, so get prepared in advance.

2. Topic/theme:

Flip through the magazine and see what topics they cover. If they already covered staff retention, it's very unlikely they will consider the same topic again for a while. Also look into their archive and see what they covered in the past. If you can take a new approach to an old topic you'll still have a good chance.

3. Target audience:

The best way to determine their target audience is by looking at the advertisement, you may not always trust what they say in an ad, but you can be certain they have done their homework in researching the demographics.

4. Length of an article:

Editors prefer an article between 600 - 850 words. Only for a feature article, they will consider something between 1000 to 1500 words.

5. Tone/style:

Some publication prefer a formal approach in the third person, other publication may prefer a more conversational style. For journals, it is always very formal and academic. For magazines, they prefer to use case studies to illustrate a point.

After doing all the home work and before sending your article to be considered, pay 100% attention to the title and the first paragraph. If the first paragraph is not compelling enough, you can certainly expect that the editor is not going to look further.

A couple months ago, someone sent me this email:

"Hi Judy, I am a personal trainer and I want to get more clients. What do you suggest I do?"

I really appreciate when people are interested in getting my advice and take the time to contact me.

But I get kind of stuck answering the question, "how do I get more customers?" because it's a big question with a lot of potential answers depending on the asker's particular situation.

There is No "Take Two Aspirins and Call Me in the Morning" in Marketing
=======================================

There can be hundreds of reasons a small business isn't attracting enough customers. For that reason, it's really difficult to pinpoint one specific solution.

This would be like someone calling their doctor and saying, "I have a terrible headache, what should I do?"

Unless the doctor knows the patient very well, she is going to ask several questions to hone in on what may be causing the headache. For example, she may ask questions like:
  • How long have you had this headache?
  • Did the pain gradually get bad or has it been bad from the beginning?
  • Have you gotten headaches like this in the past
  • Is your vision blurred?
  • and so on. Asking these questions helps the doctor determine whether the caller's headache is because they missed their morning Starbucks or because of a potentially serious medical condition. The former situation can be solved by a couple aspirins. The latter can be a 911 emergency.

    Although we joke that doctors always say, "take two aspirins and call me in the morning," no matter what the complaint, the truth is, they rarely do. They ask questions until they're reasonably sure it the problem doesn't require immediate attention.

    The problem of not getting enough new customers is not a 911 emergency. It is, however, potentially threatening to the longevity of your business depending on the cause. This is why, I too, ask questions rather than giving a "one size fits all" answer such as "attend more networking events" or "hire someone so you get a better page rank in Google."

    The 10-Point Marketing Checkup
    =======================================

    Getting new customers is the process of building a trusting relationship with people who need your products and services so that you have a strong foundation to do business. For this to happen, you need to:

  • become visible to people who don't know you

  • cultivate credibility with those who want to learn more about you

  • encourage those hanging out with you to become customers

    If you aren't getting enough customers, your marketing isn't doing its job at one of these three points. The Marketing Checkup tells you where in the customer attraction process your marketing needs help. When you know where the problem areas are, you can take action to address them.

    The ten questions are: 1. How many strangers are learning about my business?

    If you have a website, how many new visitors do you get each week. If you attend networking events, how many new people do you meet that you would like to get to know better?

    2. Is the number of people learning about you getting larger?

    For example, are you getting more and more first time visitors to your website?

    3. How many strangers become prospects that you know about?

    A prospect may know about you but it's even more important that you know they know. Why? Because it's hard to convert a prospect to a customer if you don't have multiple opportunities to demonstrate what makes you credible.

    4. Do you ask prospects how they found out about you?

    5. Do get in touch with your prospects on a regular basis?

    6. Do you offer free, no obligation opportunities that allow you to demonstrate how you help customers solve their problems?

    7. When a prospect contacts you and is clearly interested in buying something from you, do you ask questions to learn more about them?

    For example, do you ask them about the problem they need your product to solve, the results they want, the expectations they have so that you understand exactly what they see as "value added?"

    8. Do you explain formally, in a proposal or informally, in conversation what needs to happen for your prospect to attain the results they want?

    9. Do you have a way to clearly "ask for the sale?"

    If you are feeling "yes, I can help this person get what they want" then you need to let them know that and what the next steps are.

    10. Do you have a way to "close the deal" and tell your prospect what the next steps are?

    Closing the deal means you both formally acknowledge "Yes we want to work together to accomplish this," that your prospect knows what they need to do to start the process. Common next steps are signing an agreement, making an initial or entire payment, etc.

    How Did You Do?
    =======================================

    Your results from taking the ten-point check up indicate where you need to work on your marketing program to attract more clients.

    If you don't know how many people are learning about your business and checking you out, (Questions 1-3) you need to find out how many first time visitors (or new contacts) you are getting.

    And, if you're getting a lot of visitors (strangers to prospects) who aren't sticking around, you need to begin creating low cost, low risk opportunities to demonstrate to prospects what you can do for them. (Questions 4-7)

    Finally, if you have lots of ezine subscribers, class participants, blog comments, who have not yet become customers, you need to do more to make it clear, easy, and rewarding to buy. (Questions 8-10)

    No matter where you are in the process, there are actions you can take to advance.

    The top 10 things you need to do NOW to prepare for the year's biggest shopping season

    There's a particular word that strikes terror in my heart when I hear it at this time of year.

    And that word is?

    Christmas.

    Don't get me wrong, I love the holiday season -- the food, the time with family, the parties... and of course, the presents! ;-)

    But I'm the kind of person who ALWAYS leaves my shopping to the very last minute -- which means December 23rd or 24th usually finds me running around in over-crowded, over-heated shopping centers, getting frustrated because the stores have run out of the things I was planning to buy, so I have to think up new gift ideas on the spot...

    Ugh.

    Fortunately, I'm much better at selling during the holiday season than I am at buying!

    The holidays are by FAR the busiest shopping season of the year, when businesses that sell mostly to North American, European, and Australian customers tend to pull in their highest revenues.

    But in order to make the most of this year's big shopping season, the time to start preparing for it is now.

    To make it easy for you, here's my list of the top 10 things you MUST start doing now in order make sure your holidays are as full of cheer as possible (and by "cheer" I mean, PROFIT):

    1. Split-test your salescopy

    Make sure you do some testing to discover the salescopy format that converts the highest percentage of your visitors to customers. (A great tool for this is Google's Website Optimizer.)

    Test long copy vs. short copy, different kinds of headlines, and different calls to action.

    Make a note of the winners -- this will be important information when it comes to writing your "holiday copy." (More about that in a moment.)

    2. Make sure you're using your best keywords for the season

    Take the time to dig into your web logs to discover what your best SEO terms were for November and December last year. Which keywords drove the greatest number of buying visitors to your site?

    Make a list -- and then make sure you embed those keywords in your "holiday copy."

    Speaking of which...

    3. Start writing your "holiday copy"

    During November and December, your salescopy should speak to the needs of holiday shoppers.

    They're looking for presents for their loved ones, so make sure your copy presents your product as the "perfect gift" for that special someone in their life.

    Would your product make a good gift for Mom or Dad, or a teenager, or a child's elementary school teacher? Then make sure you describe it as such in your copy.

    (And don't forget to make good use of the keywords that yielded the best results last holiday season!)

    You should be prepared to "turn the switch" and put up your holiday salescopy as soon as Thanksgiving is over (if your customers are mostly American, that is).

    In the U.S., the weekend after Thanksgiving is usually the busiest shopping weekend of the year -- you want to be ready for it.

    4. Make sure your bonus offers are as strong as possible

    Your bonuses are a key component of your sales pitch. You want to make sure you're offering valuable bonuses to "sweeten the deal" and make it even easier for those holiday shoppers to reach that all-important buying decision.

    Consider making your bonuses "soft" products, such as electronic information products (such as eBooks or online videos), or online coupons.

    They're easy to create and don't cost anything to ship, which means you won't have to change your order form. (And that'll save you a huge headache!)

    5. Set up your holiday pay-per-click campaigns

    A great way to drive even MORE holiday shoppers to your site is to write some holiday-shopping themed pay-per-click ads. This is another place where those holiday keywords from last year will come in handy!

    Once again, if you sell to a lot of Americans, you should be ready to activate your holiday pay-per-click ads by Thanksgiving weekend.

    6. Confirm your shipping capabilities

    What's the most important thing holiday shoppers want to know before they buy a gift?

    That it will arrive at its intended destination BEFORE Christmas!

    Contact your postal and shipping services to find out what the "order by" dates are to guarantee deliverability before Christmas to different parts of the world. Then prominently list these "order by" dates on your site, so people can make a purchase, confident that the gift will be under the tree on Christmas morning.

    7. Tune up your email list

    If you have built up a healthy list of subscribers, email should play a major role in your holiday promotions.

    To make sure you get the most "bang" for your email "buck," do some testing to make sure you know how to send mass emails effectively and that your deliverability is good.

    Also, be prepared to send MORE emails than usual. If you normally send one email a month to your list, you should be prepared to send as many as four during the holiday shopping season (say, from the end of November until your last possible �receive before Christmas� shipping date)

    8. Put "live contact" opportunities on your page

    A great way to increase holiday sales is to include live contact opportunities on your salespages.

    This can be a phone number or a live chat program -- whatever allows people to ask you questions and get answers right away.

    Remember, holiday shoppers are short on time! And when they're shopping online, they can go from store to store very easily. They're going to buy at the site that is most credible and does the best job of resolving any questions they might have about the product.

    Make sure that site is yours!

    9. Dress up your site

    What's Christmas without a little mistletoe? ;-)

    Add a few Yuletide decorations to the design of your site so that it reflects the mood of the holiday season.

    In order to be inclusive, you might want to think about adding some graphic elements that refer to other seasonal holidays (such as Hanukkah) as well.

    10. Start planning your Jan/Feb backend NOW

    (No, that's not a reference to what your rear end's going to look like once all that delicious holiday food has been eaten! ;-)

    A great sales process doesn't end with a purchase. The people who have bought something from you once are most likely to buy from you again, so you want to make sure you stay in touch with them and present them with new offers in the future.

    Ask yourself what people who just bought or received your product would also want to buy. Focus on products or services that make a great match with your product.

    (For example, people who just bought or received a new video game console are probably very interested in buying new video games!)

    Just remember, in order to present your backend offers to people, you need to have their email addresses. And since many new owners of your product might have received it as a gift, they're probably not on your mailing list.

    So make sure your product package includes an email registration form for the end user. You may want to include an attractive offer for free valuable information -- or a free downloadable product -- in exchange for their email address.

    Then, once you've got them on your mailing list, you can develop a relationship with them and sell more products to them over time.

    Okay, so those are my top 10 suggestions on what you need to do to start getting ready for the holiday season NOW.

    You have about a month and a half to accomplish as many of these tasks as you can... so it's time to get cracking!

    If you do things right, you can expect to get twice as many visitors as usual. And if you keep your conversion rate as high as it is right now -- or are able to push it even higher -- then you can expect at least twice as many sales during the holiday shopping period!

    And that's a pretty good way to end the year right, don't you think?

    Overcoming the "Technical Learning Curve"

    Here is just one example of an extremely common question that arrives in my inbox on a daily basis...

    "WHAT IF YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND A COMPUTER? What if that is why you are sitting with $1,000 worth of products and cannot use them because you just do not understand the technical stuff and do not find any material or help on the subject... and it just takes so long to teach yourself that you just give UP???

    Wouldn't it be great if someone would write a step-by-step manual for newbies telling them what to do and how to do it AND translating everything that their webmaster is talking about!"

    Does this sound familiar?

    If you are new to computers, the learning curve involved in starting an online business can seem insurmountable. On top of trying to figure out all the business and marketing stuff, you're also faced with technical challenges around every corner.

    So if you are a complete newbie with very little computer experience -- but are desperately eager to start a business on the Internet -- where do you begin?

    Here is a step-by-step action plan that will give you the technical knowledge you need to get your business up and running as quickly as possible:

    Step #1: Assess and build your general computer skills!

    If you are reading this newsletter, it's probably safe to assume you have basic computer skills and know how to use common programs (such as Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer), send email, and navigate to different files on your computer.

    If you are not comfortable with these basic tasks, then you need to brush up on these skills -- and the easiest way to do that is pick up the following books:
    • PCs For Dummies (Or Mac for Dummies)
    • Windows for Dummies (Or Mac OS X for Dummies)
    Don't take the 'Dummies' theme personally :-) -- these are great books that will teach you the fundamentals, so you can spend less time banging your head against your keyboard and more time building your business.

    Best of all, they can typically be purchased for less than $20 each on Amazon.com!

    Alternatively, you can also take an "Introduction to Computers" course at your local community college.

    Either way, you need to acquire these basic computer skills.

    The good news is, it shouldn't take you long to learn them. If you spend an hour a day reading one of the books mentioned above, you'll be able to acquire a solid foundation of skills in just a couple of weeks.

    Step #2: Assess and build your general Internet skills!

    Once you're comfortable with your basic computer skills, it's time to move on to your Internet skills. You need to know your way around the Web if you want to build a successful online business!

    This doesn't mean you need to know the technical details of how the Internet works. (For example, you're not going to fail if you don't know what the initials "http" means!)

    But you should understand the basic principles of how websites work and how they fit into the big picture of the Internet.

    The best way to figure this out is to buy the book "Internet for Dummies." It'll give you the fundamental knowledge you need to proceed to the next step.

    Step #3: Build a Basic Website!

    Some people will say you don't need to know anything about building websites in order to have a successful business on the Internet. All you have to do is hire web designers to do it for you. (If you're able to afford it.)

    Personally, I don't subscribe to this theory.

    I believe it's important for you to have at least some basic understanding of how to design and set up your own website. These skills will give you a significant advantage when communicating with the designers you hire to build your site for you in the future.

    (And obviously, these skills are even more important if you decide to design and build your website yourself!)

    If you choose to get someone else to build your site -- and don't have any web design skills of your own -- then you're totally at the mercy of your designers whenever you want to make little changes on your website in the future.

    Every time you want to change your salescopy... or your images... or your price point... you'll need to get THEM to do it. But if you know how to make the changes yourself, then you'll be able to save yourself both time AND money.

    Now, you could learn basic web design skills from a book like "Web Design for Dummies."

    However, since the skills you need for building a good website are more technical than the others we've covered, I suggest you look into taking a web design course at a local college. It'll help you fast-track the learning curve and bring you up to speed much faster than simply reading a book would.

    Most community colleges offer web design courses take place one or two evenings a week over the period of a month or two. If you can afford to take a course like this, I strongly recommend it. It'll give you the knowledge you need to be a truly savvy website builder.

    Step #4: Get your business started!

    Now you're ready to start building your business on the Internet!

    Fortunately, for this step I can give you a complete step-by-step manual that will walk you through all the steps of starting and growing a successful business on the Internet, building on the technical skills you developed in the previous steps.
