How to start an Internet business with $179.72

Recently I asked you to leave me a comment on my blog, telling me what your number one challenge was.

One member of the "IMC Insider" community is currently facing a more difficult challenge than most. Mark just lost his entire business in a fire and doesn't know what to do next in order to begin again.

Well, Mark, if you're thinking about starting an Internet business, you're definitely on the right track. Out of any business you could start, an online one is by far the cheapest -- and the quickest!

To help you get started on the right foot, here are some tips on how you can get your business up and running in 30 days -- and making a profit -- with under $200.

Step #1: Use Wordtracker to find a product people already want to buy (1 month = $55.78)

The first thing you need to do is locate a niche market and discover a product you can sell to them.

Wordtracker is a keyword research tool that makes this step as easy as possible. It shows you what people are searching for in the search engines, so you can discover what their problems are and then present them with solutions.

A one-month membership should give you plenty of time to complete this first step. You can sign up for Wordtracker at: http://imc.wordtracker.com

Step #2: Choose a domain and set up your hosting account
(3 months = $23.94)


Most hosting companies are dirt cheap these days and will give you a domain name when you sign up.

If you get a beginner account with 1and1Internet, you can get three months of hosting for just $23.94. It's a great hosting company and will provide you with everything you need to get started.

You can sign up by going to http://www.1and1.com.

Step #3: Build your site using NVU (It's FREE!)

Although 1and1.com provides you with a basic website builder, you may decide you need more advanced web editing capabilities to customize your site.

If you're on a tight budget, NVU will do the trick. It offers a great WYSIWYG editor for free. As you get more advanced, you may want to upgrade to Dreamweaver (which you can buy at Adobe.com). But NVU is more than enough to get you started.

Step #4. Set up your payment process using PayPal (It's FREE!)

If you're going to sell your own product online, you need to be able to take payment for it! And if you're counting pennies, PayPal is by far your best option because it's free and so easy to add to your site.

Be sure to sign up for a "Premier" account. It's still free but offers some additional features you need as an ebusiness.

Okay... so your site's up and you're able to process payments. Now you need visitors!

But how do you get traffic on a shoestring budget?

Step #5: Use pay-per-click engines to drive qualified traffic to your site (1 month starting cost = $100)

Here's some good news: When you sign up for your hosting account with 1and1.com, you get $100 in free traffic from Yahoo, Google and Microsoft. If you match that investment, you'll have $200 to play with -- and that amount of money can go a long way if you play your cards right.

Just make sure you don't blow on your money on high-priced, overly general keywords!

Stick to savvy pay-per-click strategies and bid on cheap, overlooked keywords -- and you'll be able to get quality traffic without draining your bank account.

(Hint: think synonyms and misspellings!)

Step #6: Distribute articles to free directories and content sites
(It's FREE!)

One of my favorite free traffic strategies is simply writing a couple of info-packed articles and posting them in newsletter directories and free content sites where other people can pick them up and republish them.

It's a great way to get inbound links pointing to your site, so it rockets to the top of the search engine listings. Plus, the articles spread word about your business and help build your credibility as an industry expert, so your visitors will be more likely to buy from you.

Those are just two traffic strategies that cost very little and will get you ramped up and making money quickly. There are lots of others as well -- such as blogging, Web 2.0 strategies, affiliate marketing... the list goes on.

That's what I love about the Internet -- it's so unbelievably cheap to get started.

How cheap? Well, the six steps I listed above will cost you only $179.72 -- not a bad investment for a profitable business!

However, there's one thing you need to know: The secret to setting up a truly successful business in such a short time is to make sure you have the right training and information guiding you along the way.

The entrepreneurs who end up blowing all their money with nothing to show for it are the ones who spend too much on strategies that haven't been proven to work... or get sucked into "get rich quick" scams... or try to reinvent the wheel.

A small investment in your education will save you a huge amount of money over the long term. The world's most popular search engine just keeps chugging
along - the little train that could (and did) make billions
of dollars and dominate the Internet landscape.

Like a giant tree with a root system extending deep into the
earth, Google seeks to expand and diversify far beyond mere
online search.

In their quest, the little elves at Google never seem to
sleep and toil endlessly to bring us new gadgets and gizmos
intended to make our lives better, both online and offline.

These four latest free offerings from Google's Labs

organize your thoughts to find the local pizza restaurant's
phone number through your cell phone.

** Google Code Search **

This one should have the geeks salivating like Pavlov's dog
sniffing out a rump roast!

This new search tool at Google allows you to search for
public source code, the lines and lines of code that make
your nifty software programs actually function.

Instead of writing all the code themselves, programmers can
find and grab huge chunks of code free for the taking.

This makes a great staring point not only for programmers
who want a leg up on finishing projects, but also neat for
would-be software entrepreneurs who want to surf for ideas.

** Google Voice Local Search **

Ok, I'll admit to some skepticism when I saw that Google
would help me find the number for the local barbershop just
by talking into my phone.

But Google actually surprised me when I dialed
1-800-GOOG-411.

The phone asked me to say the city and state I wanted to
search, and then asked me if I wanted to search by business
name or business category.

Once I found the business I wanted, Google went ahead and
dialed the number for me.

I found the service no worse than the automated search from
the phone company, and Google offers this service FREE.

Well worth a call if you find yourself paying some hefty 411
fees to the phone company or your wireless provider.

** Google Reader **

The jury is still debating whether my dear sweet mother will
ever subscribe to an RSS feed (the syndication feeds from
blogs, news services, and more), so I'm not sure how
universal RSS will ever get.

However, Google doess offer a free RSS reader online that
enables you to easily subscribe to blogs, news feeds, and
any other RSS feeds you like.

The readers lets you organize your feeds, update, and view
them all in one place.

Not as powerful as some readers you pay for, but very
functional and hey, you can't beat free!

** Google Notebook **

Google Noetbook is the most recent graduate of the Google
Labs.

This handy program allows you to organize your notes and
clippings as you travel the web.

Instead of just bookmarking a site in your favorites and
trying to remember why you liked it, with Google Notebook,
you can highlight what you want and click the "clip" button.


You can then organize your notes however you want and then
search through your note text at any time.

You can even share your notes with others.

Google Notebook is available through your web browser after
you download and install special extensions to help you clip
items you find on the Web.

"But they said I would be rich! What happened?"

You've heard the saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Well, if you follow this principle when deciding how you'll make money on the Internet, you could save yourself a significant amount of grief in the future.

It seems like every day there's a new "get rich quick" scam popping up on the Internet promising, "If you have a pulse you will be rich before you know it!!!"

Unfortunately, the only ones who ever make a penny are the scammers! And they'll be gone long before you ever figure that out.

At every seminar we hold, we meet smart people who were duped by scammers like these -- and in many cases, taken for a small fortune. These are great people who have a genuine desire to succeed. They simply made one bad decision. Now they'll be paying for it, for months or even years.

So what's the best way to fight these scammers? The answer is simple: EDUCATION.

Today I'm going to educate you on how to filter the REAL money-making opportunities from all the B.S. out there, with my "Scam Detector Check List"!

Whenever you come across a possible business opportunity, simply consult this handy checklist. It'll help you discover if it really is a genuine opportunity -- or a waste of money.

1. If they can't prove a successful track record -- it might be a scam

If you've never heard of them before -- and they can't offer solid proof they've got a successful track record -- then how can you trust them to help YOU make money?

Be skeptical. Ask questions. Search for the URL in Google. Are they listed?

If you can't find any positive consumer reviews about them -- or if the only reviews you find are negative -- you should definitely think twice about doing business with them.

2. If they can't show you legitimate testimonials -- it might be a scam

If you are making a significant investment in a business opportunity, the company you are purchasing from should be willing to put you in contact with other successful students.

We get this request all of the time, and have hundreds of successful students who are happy to give us a personal reference at a moment's notice.

As you'll see, we provide names, photographs, and URLs for every testimonial we use, so you can easily see that they're all coming from real people.

In fact, we even use video testimonials on our sites. What better way to confirm testimonials are real than to get them straight from the source -- and watch people actually say them in their own words?

3. If they give you a product to sell, as well as the web site to sell it -- it might be a scam

If someone's offering to give you a product to sell, AND the website to sell it on, beware! Chances are hundreds -- if not thousands -- of other people are selling the exact same product with the exact same website. With so much competition, only a small percentage of sellers will ever make any money.

That's why at IMC, we're so adamant about teaching our students how to find their own niche market and develop or find their own products to sell. It's the philosophy our entire training system is founded on.

I truly believe niche marketing is the only GUARANTEED way to start a successful business on the Internet. Not using the same website to sell the exact same product that thousands of other people are selling!


4. If the company is charging you money to sell their products -- it might be a scam

If a company says you can sell their product and they will pay you a commission from each sale -- but you need to pay them for the opportunity to do so -- chances are it's a scam.

The truth is, companies like this KNOW their "affiliates" aren't going to generate any sales. That's why they need to get your money up front!

Take it from someone who's run a highly successful affiliate program for years. If someone wants to become an IMC affiliate and sell my products for me, I'd never make them pay! Why should they? They're doing me a favor!

5. If you cannot talk to them in person -- it might be a scam

Before you make a significant investment in a business opportunity, give the vendors a call. Talk to them in person. Ask them hard questions. If you cannot talk to them in person then don't do business with them!

And finally, use common sense. If you apply the points above and ask lots of questions, chances are you will make the right decisions and pursue the right opportunities.

Just remember: When it comes to online success, there is no magic pill. If you want to start a real business on the Internet you need to be prepared to put in the time and effort to get there.

I can give you all of the strategies you need to make that happen. And I can break them down into easy-to-follow instructions. But the rest is up to you!

Are We There Yet?' How To Create 'Overnight Success' In Your Business

A person I admire has a very successful business. He's sharp, personable, funny, smart, and helpful. And, the products and services he provides are top-notch. He's sold thousands of them, and his business is operating at a level much higher than mine.

Then he announced that he was celebrating three years in business. What! Only three years? How'd he get so far, so fast?

He's created for himself an overnight success. I'm doing the same thing, following the same steps he did. And, you can, too.

Here's the secret to his "overnight success": He spent 15 years prior to starting his "overnight success" business in his industry, learning, growing, making mistakes.

Jim Collins, in his groundbreaking book Good to Great, wrote about "the Flywheel and the Doom Loop." In the companies his team studied, the ones who had outstanding results just kept incrementally improving, learning, making mistakes, learning, continuing. These efforts created momentum on their "flywheel."

The Flywheel is an analogy Collins used- a Flywheel is a huge, very heavy wheel that takes a tremendous amount of effort to get it to turn even a fraction of an inch in its rotation. However, by pushing steadily at it, it gradually picks up momentum. Then, you hit the moment when it's moving so fast, nothing can stop it.

In contrast, companies who didn't take the Flywheel approach were caught in the "Doom Loop." Lurching around, trying a new thing every year or two (or month or two!), trying to hit the lottery. Sound familiar? Unfortunately, it doesn't work.

In other words, "overnight success" only looks that way from the outside. When you finally hit your momentum, it won't feel like overnight success to you. But it may look that way to others.

I have found this to be true without exception. EVERY "overnight success," when I've looked at it closely, wasn't really. My mentor coach looked like an overnight success, going from $0 to a full client load in 90 days... except that she had years of experience in running a different practice before, and had the internal confidence it takes to enroll clients.

There CAN be a sudden big jump in results, and this, no doubt, is what makes people think to call it an "overnight success." But, it just ain't so. The sudden big jump is because the slow, steady incremental pushing of the Flywheel suddenly hit the tipping point. You are inching up the see-saw, and, a little bit past the mid-way point, the see-saw tilts in the other direction.

The real question isn't "Can you get the see-saw to tip?" The real question is: "Can you keep from getting thrown off when the see-saw does tip?" How many lottery winners hold on to their millions? How many sudden superstar athletes or musicians are overwhelmed by success, and fall into drugs and reckless spending?

It's strange but true that many participants in my Heart of Money Transformational Journey have a bigger struggle appreciating assets they already own, than they do in facing their financial liabilities.

The real secrets to "overnight success" are:

1. It only looks like "overnight" from the outside - it took a lot of incremental work over years;

2. You have to prepare yourself internally;

3. You should look around and find contentment in your heart where you already are, so you can feel enlivened to continue the journey ahead. You don't have to be afraid of success, but you do have to prepare yourself spiritually in the same incremental manner as you do your business. If you work on both the internal and the external parts of success, then you'll be ready for the tipping point when it comes, inside and out.

# Comparison is an evil force. Seriously. Although it's great to watch others in order to learn, if you are comparing yourself to someone else, when each of your situations is unique, you ignite havoc in your heart as you struggle to be someone you aren't.

Stop comparing yourself to others. You don't know their story. You don't know how they did what they are doing. And, you probably don't even know the full truth of how successful they really are. People can look successful, and still have their struggles.

# Appreciate your assets. This is the third chapter of Section Five: The Heart of Money, in my book, and it is surprisingly challenging for most people. Try facing something you own, maybe a bigger ticket item, and notice how your heart feels as you face it. This item is yours, it's been given to you, you have full responsibility over how to dispose of it.

Don't be surprised if it's an overwhelming feeling. But take time to accept what you already have into your heart. Digesting like this will help make room for more.

# Don't do more than one difficult thing at a time. Don't raise your prices, start a new marketing campaign, and try to create your first DVD all at the same time. Pick one challenging area, and immerse yourself in it until you feel you "own" it. Then move on to the next. Don't worry if you don't have a blog, or a DVD, or whatever latest and newest thing everyone is touting. You'll get to them, if it's truly important.

Instead focus on the most challenging thing in your business that isn't working to your satisfaction, and take it on. Learn about it, chew on it, integrate it into your heart, and then you can move on to the next.
