3 Sources of Content All Affiliates Should Use...
Copyright 2005 Kurma Group

As an affiliate, it's critical that you have a website.
"Having" a website is not always the hardest part - the
hardest part is that your website needs to get traffic! So,
how do you get traffic?

There is absolutely no question that the best form of
traffic is search engine traffic. Search engines can
deliver highly targeted traffic that is absolutely free.

The catch?

Well, how do you get search engines to give you traffic in
the first place? How do you convince a robotic spider that
your website deserves their attention?

One word: Content

Search engines have one primary goal: To serve their
visitors with quality content targeted to what their
visitor is looking for. A search engine is going to do
anything in their power to rank websites based on what
think is relevant.

So, in the end, your real job is to find a way to convince
the search engines that your website is better suited for a
topic than another website - in other words - you need to
better optimize your website for a given keyword that
another website.

All in all this means that your website needs content. Day
by day the "amount" of content your website needs is
increasing. As more websites compete, the search engines
are looking for more and more content on your website.

Search engines are giving more credibility, hence traffic,
to larger websites with more updated content. They figure
that if a website has lots of pages that are constantly
updated, it is a more credible website. So, now how does
the little guy, an affiliate, compete and keep their
website on the top?

3 Sources of Fast and Credible Content

1. Article Directories

Many argue that article directories are bad places to get
articles from because of the "duplicate content" penalty
that search engines may throw at you. However, what they do
not realize is that search engines penalize duplicated
PAGES, not content - there is a difference.

This means that search engines are looking for duplicate
HTML rather than duplicate articles. It is common sense
that certain articles and press releases may be placed on
multiple places on the internet - this has been happening
since the beginning of the internet.

However, if HTML is duplicated, then the search engines
know that someone is trying to trick them.

Feel free to grab articles from directories, just make sure
that you are plugging these articles into your own unique
HTML files - create your own custom templates.

2. Blogs

Blogs have become extremely powerful lately - search
engines are devouring them. Why? Well blogs are short for
"web log" - an internet based journal. Just the title
automatically indicates that the blog will be consistently
updated.

Blogs are also very clean and simple HTML with easy to
follow navigation for search engines. If you have not yet,
it is a wise decision to launch a blog on your own website.

3. Product Reviews/Information

Many affiliates who sell physical products or have websites
that sell hundreds or thousands of websites argue that they
cannot possibly write articles to promote all the products.

So, how do you have meaningful pages of "content" if you
sell lots of products and writing articles is too difficult?

Write product reviews or copy/paste information on that
product.

If you ever search for an electronic item in the search
engines, you'll find that the top ranking sites are not
always articles but are typically just websites that sell
that product. Some of them have "reviews" of the product
and others just have copied and pasted information from the
company.

So, a fast way to get content is to simply "borrow"
technical specs and reviews on the product. But remember,
put these into your own template (since it is repeated
content).

There you have it - 3 sources for fast content to help you
fill your website with many pages that search engines can
index and then refer traffic to.

There is a Time to Sell, And a Time to Educate

It has often been said that the true nature of marketing is
four-fold, what is referred to as the four p's of marketing:

* Product
* Place (distribution)
* Price
* Promotion

Most people who do business online look at the sole element of
Promotion and believe that is the full range of what encompasses
the marketing experience. These promoters tell their world
audience that they are successful marketers, and the world
believes them, because the general world audience fails to
recognize the differences between marketing and promotion.

THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF PROMOTION

Promotion actually entails several activities. All promotional
activities actually fall under the guise of communicating your
sales message to your potential clients, a.k.a. your target
market.

All communication between first contact and your after-the-sale
customer service is included in your actual promotion. Some
people lose sight of the message at this point. They lose site of
the message because they feel that promotion ends when the cash
register rings.

After-the-sale is as important, if not more important, than every
communication leading up to the sale. Many professional marketers
have pointed out that it costs six times more money to bring a
customer to a purchase, than it costs to keep an existing
customer buying your goods and services. Over the long haul, it
is much more economic to protect your current customer base than
it is to generate a new customer base.

Other factors that fall under promotional activities include:

* determining your promotional strategy
* determining whether you will use direct selling or indirect
selling
* determining whether you will do the selling or employ a team
of sales people
* public relations and publicity
* advertising
* sales promotions
* educating your target market as to why they will need what
you offer
* closing the sale
* after-the-sale customer service
* generating repeat business

DETERMINING THE HOW

First you must decide how you will reach potential customers.
Once you understand who will most likely buy your products and
services, then you must determine the most cost effective way of
reaching those prospective customers.

If you are targeting the consumer market, you can generally go
the direct sales method of advertising and letting customers
order directly from your company. Or, you can go after the buyers
of the major retail chains, to have your product placed in their
stores.

Both methods of delivery to the consumer have different
requirements from your marketing team and sales departments.

If you go directly to the consumer, you will need to set up an
order fulfillment system, and a means to take the customer's
payments for your goods or services. You will need to decide
on a 800 calling system or to put up a store front.

If you go through the retailers, you will need to set up a sales
team that will go out into the field and talk to all of the
relevant buyers to get your products into their store. You might
even be able to go through the wholesaler system to get your
goods placed at the wholesaler level, and to utilize their field
representatives to sell your products to the stores that will be
able to reach the consumer.

DETERMINING HOW YOU WILL COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR BUYERS

Publicity is often a function of capturing the attention of news
agencies such as newspapers, magazines, radio and television, and
giving them the incentive to create news stories that will tell
the message of your business activities.

Public Relations is generally the function of putting a human
face on your business in the eyes of the consumer.

Advertising is paying the above mentioned news agencies to tell
your story to their own customers --- readers, listeners and
viewers.

Educating your target market generally falls under the helm of
all of the above listed methods of communciation.

THERE IS A TIME TO SELL AND A TIME TO EDUCATE

A common mistake made by promoters everywhere is to fail to see
a difference between selling and educating.

In the back of their minds, they are thinking that the point of
their activities is to "sell" their stuff. So, when they sit down
to sell their stuff, they write to "sell". In many media's, this
is a catastrophic mistake.

A press release should never be written to "sell". You are trying
to capture the attention of news agencies and encourage them to
tell people about your business. Press releases should be written
and sent ONLY when there is something "newsworthy" about your
business to share with the public. Remember, you are targeting
the press, a.k.a. the news media, with your press release.

Look at this matter through their eyes.

They are looking to tell their readers, listeners and viewers
about items that are newsworthy, because their users are
interested in getting the news from them. They do this so that
they can sell advertising to others. Their bottom line is
measured in the amount that they can charge for advertising and
the amount of advertising they can sell.

Why then would they want to communicate your sales message to
their users if there was no news value in your message? They
wouldn't, would they? If you send them a press release that holds
no newsworthy information, what is the chance that they will read
your next press release? Your chances are definately greatly
diminished if you waste their time now. If you want to sell your
goods to their customers (readers, listeners and viewers), then
you can buy advertising just like everyone else.

This same concept applies online.

EDUCATE ONLINE CUSTOMERS FOR PROFIT

Online publishers and webmasters need to share valuable
information with their customers, so that they can sell more
advertising to the people who are paying their bills. If you want
to sell their users your stuff, then you should buy advertising
like everyone else.

But, if you are willing to take the time to develop
stories/articles that they can share with their customers, then
you might just find that they will be more than happy to print
your story/article in their online ezine or website, at no cost
to you.

Whole industries online are driven by people who have learned the
value of Education in the promotion process.

Just like the press release can generate news stories in print
newspapers and magazines, radio and television, the free reprint
article can generate significant traffic from publishers and
webmasters on the internet.

The trick for reprint articles is the same trick that works for
press releases. Press releases encourage offline media companies
to generate a story based on news coming from a company. Reprint
articles also educate and entertain the users of online
properties.

If you want to sell in the ezines and websites, then buy
advertising.

But, if you are willing to "educate your target market as to why
they will need what you offer" by educating them about the uses
of what you offer, then you are one step closer to being able to
utilize the reprint article to generate sales for your online
business.

The trick is that publishers and webmasters won't print your
article if you employ sales copy in your article. You MUST
educate their readers about something of value to their readers.
It may be how the reader can utilize a generic product that
looks a lot like yours. It may be how to do things that would
be important to the people who will buy what you are offering.

What is important is that you must keep the "sales pitch" out
of your article. You must educate your reader about what is
important to the reader. And when your reader finally reaches the
end of your article, you should then provide a resource box about
yourself. The resource box is the "about the author" information
that follows an article and tells the reader why he or she should
visit your website and why he or she should buy what you are
offering for sale. And, do keep your resource box short. At most,
your resource box should be no more than nine lines in length.

Your resource box should be constructed much like this:

Top Search Engine Ranks- The Only Secret You Need-Explained: Part 1
by John Krycek

The top three search pages- the only place you'll be noticed
they say. Unfortunately, they are correct. How can you
possibly compete with millions of pages? Many represent
thousands of dollars of professional search marketing and
optimization per page, backed by budgets on which most of us
could retire. How can the little guy have a chance armed
with an already out-of-date search engine marketing book and
a ream of now dog-eared, printed web pages on the topic? Do
you really think you have a chance to land those top spots?
Yes, you do. the same chance the big guys have!

Do a search for Internet marketing or some derivative of
that and you'll be thrown into an expanding mass of
theories, techniques, methodologies, scams and some actual
useful information. Sorting through the latest trends,
applying them to your site, and most importantly
understanding what you're doing can be confusing to say the
least. Before we discuss how to get on top, let's define
some of the different players on the field.

If you've guessed it's not about which strategy to use, but
rather how to use each strategy effectively, you're headed
down the right path. I'm going to show you that all of
these techniques share one common thread. you master that,
and you're in the big leagues!

Here's the team line up in the current Internet marketing
playing field.

RSS

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It's a kind of
programming language format that lets you share news
headlines and stories through a type of Internet address
called an "RSS feed." You can import these feeds into your
site so you have the latest headlines from news around the
world.

But the great part about them is that feeds exist for almost
every subject matter, in every genre you can think of.
Track a couple down that pump news about your business
subject matter and you have juicy, up to date dynamic
content on your web page to attract visitors! You can even
take it one step further.

It's not that difficult to create your own RSS feed. In
this case, you're actually writing the news about your
business. People around the world can then display your
information on their websites. If you make those news
stories factual, appealing, attractive and easy to read,
you're on your way to becoming a household name.

Link Popularity

Many would argue that this is the most crucial factor in
search ranking today. You might have heard the "vote"
analogy. Where every site that links to yours is like a
vote for your site. The more sites you have linked to you,
the more votes you have.the more votes, the higher your
ranking.

That's an extremely simplified definition. There's a big
curve ball though. Votes are not equal. Search engines
weigh many factors about your site, your link text, the site
that links to you, and the number and type of sites that
link to it, just to name a few variables.

Link popularity is definitely a big contender in achieving
high rankings. But, you don't want to link to just anyone.
And stay far away from link farms and free for all link
sites. They usually cover a full gamut of different kinds
of sites. They're scams. And many are already banned from
search engines and you will be penalized.

You want to stick with sites that are similar in theme and
subject matter to yours. It's worth paying for some one way
links to your site from well established, authoritative
sources.

Articles

The concept of article marketing in terms of the Internet is
two fold. If RSS were like a news ticker, articles would be
the equivalent of magazines. Here's how the process works.
Write an article about one particular interesting facet of
your business. An issue, current event or strategy that
would peak interest in a likeminded reader are targets.
Next, post your article for free on sites like
content-articles.com and ezinearticles.com that store giant
collections of articles. Post your article on groups like
yahoogroups.com that announce new articles by particular
category.

Then, a person in your related field is looking to fill
their site with some well-written, interesting things that
will keep people on their site. They select your article to
publish and include it for all of their traffic to read.

How does this help your business? The key is in the very
bottom of the article, in few lines of type called the
resource box. Here, you put your name, and a well written
(and varying) text link to your website. (This is part of
the agreement. If someone wants to reproduce your words on
their site they may do so for free. But they must include
the resource box with the active links.)

Now, a search spider comes along and indexes your article on
their site, with a link pointing right back to your site!
And remember that links back to your site, in a search
engine's mind, mean that you must be important.

Secondly, people may want to learn more and follow the link
right back to your site. Hint. post your articles on your
own site too. If someone wants to read more of what you've
written they have immediate access.

Blogs

According to Princeton University, a blog is a "web log, a
shared on-line journal where people can post diary entries
about their personal experiences and hobbies."

What makes blogs so exciting is that anyone can have a blog.
It's a chance to establish yourself in your area of
expertise. Get your name around. People will keep coming
back to your blog to hear what you have to say about a
particular subject matter. While the term "diary" conveys a
free writing style, the content of blogs can be quite
educational and come from some powerful high ranking
industry people in an easy to understand, all professional
titles aside type of atmosphere. Hint: A blog can be an
unprecedented educational tool.

Imagine that your passion is physics and you could read
Einstein's own, every day thoughts on relativity in an
atmosphere of his laptop by a fireplace, typing away at
night in his jammies very relaxed, outside of the office.
You have access to some great minds and thinkers, learn from
them, expand upon their ideas, and become a leading mind
yourself.

Search Engine Optimization

This is the combination of art, creative writing and
statistical analysis that give your site viewers rich
content and presents it to the search engines in the most
efficient method of achieving you high ranks. Optimization
includes researching keywords, analyzing your competition,
having just the right keyword in just the right place on the
page in just the right frequency in just the write line of
code so the engine feels your page is relevant. It involves
streamlining your code, placing things like CSS and Java and
other scripts in external files. Search engines love text,
not the framework that makes it look pretty on the page.

The Dilemma

Search engines are evolving at an exponential rate, forced
to adapt and develop battle strategies to combat programs
and technology developed to outwit them. When link
popularity became important, software to create hundreds of
doorway pages to sites was invented, to cite one example.

The consequences from these people trying to outmaneuver the
search companies are chaotic and create virtual gridlock on
the Internet. However, statistics overwhelmingly show
75-80% of site traffic comes from search engines. So search
engine marketing must be an equally strong part of your web
development thrust.

You think ok, but if search engines are always evolving to
stay a step ahead of the abusers, what if I manage to get my
site way high on the list, only to be at the bottom again
because a modification in the search-ranking algorithm is
made. Suddenly my top 10 results plummeted to position 880
overnight. That's pretty upsetting, not to mention a huge
waste of money.

The Secret

Diversify

Don't rely only on keywords in your pages to get to the top.
Like you would diversify a stock portfolio, write some
articles, make sure you get yourself listed on good, quality
directories and sites, and optimize your code. Develop an
Internet marketing plan that won't cause you to plunge in
the search ranks because of an algorithm change. Insert
appropriately the eggs in one basket cliché here.

The Common Thread

RSS feeds, articles, link text, blogs. the combination of
these and other methods will bring you to the top. But they
have to be effectively consistent in one thing. They must
all have superior content written for the end user, not the
search engines. Remember; always sell to your potential
customers, not the engines. Here's why.

A search engine company's goal is to provide the end user
with the best, most relevant matches to a search inquiry.
If they fail, the user moves to a different search engine.
They don't want to lose customers any more than you do. To
keep a customer, a search must be matched to the best
content. Period. No matter what defenses or blockades or
changes they evolve with overnight. If they don't provide
results a user can use, they lose that user. And they wont
allow that.

Therefore, only legitimate, quality content will be matched
to the end users request. No matter what modifications to
algorithms or stops to doorway pages or link farms a search
engine company integrates into their defenses, they wont
deviate from their goal of being the best. They can only do
that by providing the best results.

An assortment of carefully planned and executed Internet
marketing strategies and techniques will get you to the top.
It does take some time, but your efforts must start with a
solid foundation. You must look at the big picture. It's
not something that can be done in an evening, so don't try.
Instead, focus on building a well diversified skeletal
system to your Internet marketing.

In Part two learn what good content consists of, how to
write it, how to get it, how to keep it fresh and keep your
audience.

4 Tips On Taming Your Email
Copyright 2005 Inez Ng

I remember when I was first introduced to email. I was
working in a big corporation at the time. I thought it was
the neatest thing since sliced bread. I hit a button and
the message is sent instantaneously. What could be better?
Since then, my feelings towards email are somewhat
modified. I still think the technology is great, but I
have witnessed too many people getting stressed out by the
sheer volume of communications via this medium to know that
for some it can sometimes be a curse instead of a blessing.
Since none of us is expecting a reduction in the volume of
email we will receive, you may find the following tips
helpful in helping gain control over your email.

Keep in mind that this article is designed to help you
manage your emails related to work. If you do not have
separate email accounts for your work and personal life, my
very first suggestion is to get that set up right now.
There are numerous options for free email accounts. Do
yourself a favor and set one up for your personal
activities, like shopping on-line, or subscribing to ezines
for your outside interests. That way, you won't waste
precious time weeding through the latest sales offers from
Amazon while you are trying to concentrate on work.

Tip #1 - Handle each message once if at all possible

Treat the email like a piece of paper. If it is short
enough for you to read on the screen, decide what action
you need to take to "handle" it. If it was an information
only message, then either file it or delete it afterwards.
Do not just leave it in your in-box for later because it
will take you more time to read it again and figure out
what to do.

Unfortunately, a good percentage of the messages I used to
get were multi-pages long with multiple attachments. In
those cases, I found it very difficult to read the contents
on the screen. My suggestion is to print out the entire
content and quickly decide if you want to deal with it now
or later.

Tip #2 - Don't be stingy with folders

In order to file a message you want to keep, you have to
have a destination for it. The only reason why you want to
file something is if you think you want to access the
information again. So, the easier it is for you to find
it, the more efficient you will be. Create as many folders
and sub-folders as you need in order to expedite your
search for the information in the future. It will take way
less time to find a particular message in a folder with 30
items versus 300 items.

Tip #3 - Don't be an email pack-rat

Are you someone who saves every message just in case you
will need it later? If you are, break yourself of that
habit right now! Unless you have to retain documents for
compliance reasons, the "just in case" scenario does not
happen often enough to warrant the clutter you are creating
for yourself. When you surround yourself with clutter, it
drains energy from you, and clutters your mind. So, be
very selective about what you need to keep. And I will bet
you money that if you really needed something that you
didn't keep, you can find another copy (usually from the
originator) pretty easily.

Tip #4 - Leave ONLY messages that you need to act on in
your "Inbox"

Having an Inbox with hundreds of messages will overwhelm
anyone. And being in overwhelm is not going to help your
productivity or your mind-set. So, if you still have to
read that 10 page email you received, leave it in your
Inbox until you have read it and know what you have to do.
But if you've already read that concise one page message
from your boss and answered her question, then either
delete it, or move it to a subject folder.

When I was in the corporate world, I had an objective of
keeping my Inbox to fewer than 30 items because I know that
I would start to feel out-of-control when there are too
many items in there. And I would feel very proud of myself
when I get the list to 15 or fewer because that meant that
I was very close to getting "caught up".

There you have it - these are the top 4 things I do to keep
my email under control. If you found this information
useful and would like more tips on this subject, let me
know (via email, I suppose) and I'll let you in on more of
my secrets in a follow-up article.

Marketing for the Beginner
Copyright 2005 Mark McCormack

Marketing can be an extremely frustrating experience.

With all the "make cash fast" schemes it's easy to get
sucked into a marketing experience. The opportunity itself
may have potential but only if YOU as a motivated business
owner are able to attract a market (ie. get people to your
site). This is primarily evident in business proposals like
"make a fortune with only 4 minutes a day!" or "spend one
hour or less a day to make cash fast!"

Do you know what you will be doing in those 4 minutes or in
that hour? Advertising.

It doesn't matter what form you advertise in, it is still
advertising. Usually for the "4 minute" type offers, one
ends up using a Group Mailing or a mass mailing system to
send out thousands of invitations. It sounds easy and
usually is easy to use a mass mailing system but an
inexperienced marketeer may neglect to ask, "Where do I get
these thousands of email addresses from?"

This is the tricky part.

If you are a beginner you might find yourself discovering
an entirely new business realm. The realm of leads. Leads
are people you can invite to your business using provided
information such as phone numbers or email addresses. These
people are potential prospects who can buy your product off
of you. To get lead information, however, costs money and
not just petty cash. Good quality leads that apply to your
business may typically cost anything from $125 to well over
$1200. This isn't for thousands of leads either but perhaps
25 or 100.

One way to escape buying leads is to mosey on up to ones
warm market such as relatives or friends. This isn't
generally recommended since relatives and friends may
become emotional liabilities (especially if they aren't as
successful as you!).

Another option is to generate ones own leads using pay per
click technologies such as search engines or banner
advertisements. Guess what? These also cost money
especially if you're not a guru at using keywords. As for
banners? Now-a-days they are ignored more than the spam in
your junk mail.

The more astute newbie may search and find traffic
generators that offer FREE leads. It sounds great but after
more research it becomes apparent that these free leads run
out and one is left to spend more time dealing with another
company. One more thing to note with "free leads" is that
often they are low quality consisting of people trying to
advertise just like you! They are as interested in buying
from other people as you are.

What can you draw from all this? A business sense. Next
time you see an opportunity to make money especially
online, keep in mind it takes money to make money. This is
common sense in any legitimate business.

So just remember that it takes some time and usually some
money to get things flowing but don't get totally
discouraged! Those 4 minute claims to cash do eventually
happen; it just takes some extra initial effort and
research. Don't let scammers nor scam-protesting-zealots
pull the wool over your eyes. Both of them can cost you
money and your dreams.
