Who Says Affiliates Can't Use Joint Ventures To Make Money?

This is a technique I teach almost every day. Yet almost no
affiliate marketers are currently using it!

The trick is so interesting that you'll learn how to
actually make money off of your competitors.

Here's how it works:

Step One: Create an "Upsell."

An Upsell is simply a more expensive product or service
that you offer to your current customers. One of the best
Upsells is a service that simplifies a complex process.
Examples would be installing and running software,
providing tutorials or providing consultation.

Here's an example: Let's say you've got a niche web site on
resume writing. You promote a resume writing Ebook or audio
tape program. Your commission on each sale is $20, and
you've already sold 35 copies, so you've earned $700.

But even if someone buys a resume writing book, they won't
necessarily get around to actually WRITING their resume!
Some may procrastinate and others may just be too anxious.

So an excellent - and lucrative - Upsell would be a resume
writing service. You offer this to the people who buy the
book. But instead of making $20 per sale, you can charge
much, much more - let's say $350 for a custom resume.

Even if only 2 people purchase this Upsell, you'll make as
much money on those two sales as you did selling 35 copies
of the Ebook. Nice? Yes.

Now go on to Step Two - which is where the REAL money gets
made!

Step Two: JV to sell your Upsell!

Now here's the part that most affiliates, especially in
niche markets, never think about. They fail to recruit
solid JV partners once they've developed their own backend
Upsells.

Once you've developed your upsell, contact all the websites
that you initially looked to as competitors and offer them
marketing material to help them make more money. You'll be
amazed at how quickly they jump on.

In the example of the resume Ebook, you can even contact
other affiliates who are selling that product. Yes - your
competitors! Find anyone selling an Ebook about writing
resumes and ask them to backend your Upsell.

They don't have to worry about you taking their business
because they are not offering your service until the person
has actually bought the Ebook through their link already!
So, get creative and learn how to double your income by
simply profiting from the traffic you already have. Create
your own high-end products and sell them to those who buy
though your affiliate link.

Better yet, hunt down your competitors and ask them to do
the same.

Plan Your Way to Pay-Per-Click Campaign Success!

Have you heard the saying, "planning is everything?" Perhaps
there is some truth in that saying so let's discover how to
successfully plan your pay-per-click campaign.

Let's keep this simple and create a list of required tasks to
successfully plan your pay-per-click campaign. These are:

1. Determine your product's Unique Selling Proposition.
2. Define your pay-per-click campaign's goals and objectives.
3. Decide the starting and ending dates for the pay-per-click
campaign.
4. Establish the click-through rate target for your pay-per-
click ads.
5. Set the conversion rate target for your pay-per-click ads.
6. Define your budget for the pay-per-click campaign.
7. Establish your ROI or Return on Investment goal for the pay-
per-click campaign.
8. Determine the value of each keyword phrase.
9. Plan how to measure your pay-per-click campaign results.

Task number one is determining your product or service's Unique
Selling Proposition, or USP. What is a USP? The USP clearly
answers the question, "Why should I do business with you instead
of your competitors?" Your organization needs to stand out from
the crowd! This could relate to the services or products
provided, guarantees offered, delivery mechanisms used,
complementary services provided, pricing or any attribute
associated with your business.

Identify your organization's uniqueness since it is pointless
promoting cheap prices if everyone else is promoting the same.
If everyone were offering cheap prices you would be better off
promoting higher prices for providing better quality and service
as long as you are delivering better quality and service.

An articulate USP assists in defining the focus and selecting
the keyword phrases for your pay-per-click campaign. For example,
if your USP is focused on quality and service perhaps you would
avoid a keyword phrase containing the word "cheap" but rather
include words denoting quality.

Task number two is defining the campaign's goals and objectives.
Typical examples might be: increase web site traffic X percent,
acquire X number of new business leads, obtain X number of new
customers or orders per day, achieve X sales revenue dollars per
time period, etc. Whatever you set as your goals or objectives
you must be certain they are quantifiable and measurable in
order to determine the success of your pay-per click campaign.

Task number three is deciding the starting and ending date of
the pay-per-click campaign. This is a major benefit to pay-per-
click campaigns since you have the ability to turn a campaign on
and off at your discretion. As an example, you could create a
campaign promoting National Nurse's Week or something similar
with discounted sale prices supported by advertising coop funds
provided by the product's manufacturer.

Task number four is establishing the click-through rate target
or goal for your pay-per-click ads. The click-through rate is
the number of times the ad is clicked versus the total number of
impressions. One impression is a one display of the ad. In
general, click-through rates range from 1% to 5% of the number
of impressions. The formula is:

Click-Through Rate % = Total Number of Ad Clicks /
Total Number of Ad Impressions * 100

Task number five is setting the conversion rate target or goal
for your pay-per-click ads. A conversion is a measure of
searchers clicking on the ad and taking the next step or call to
action such as a purchase, registration, subscription, etc. The
conversion rate can be measured versus the total number of ad
impressions or total ad click-throughs. It's your choice; but,
most organizations measure it versus the ad click-throughs.
Conversion rates range to all extremes but a good target might
be from 5% to 20% of the number of ad click-throughs. A quick
view of the formula is:

Conversion Rate % = Total Number of Conversion Actions /
Total Number of Ad Impressions * 100

Or

Conversion Rate % = Total Number of Conversion Actions /
Total Number of Ad Click-Throughs * 100

Task number six is defining your budget for the pay-per-click
campaign. How much do you desire to budget or spend per time
period or for the total cost of the pay-per-click campaign?
Many of the pay-per-click search engines offer automated
budgeting mechanisms that can be initiated to control the cost of
your campaign. If you do nothing else in the planning process,
set a campaign budget and stick to it!

Task number seven is establishing your ROI or Return on
Investment goal. The ROI is based on the tangible benefits,
bottom-line revenue increase or expense decrease, versus the
cost to obtain the tangible benefits. In general, each
organization defines ROI objectives for company investments and
these should be applied to the pay-per-click campaign.

Task number eight, and perhaps the most important, is
determining the value of each keyword phrase and, in turn each
visitor. The simple formula works like this. Divide the
average number of new customers each month by the average number
of monthly web site visitors to get the percentage of visitors
who actually become customers. If you multiply this percentage
times your average profit margin on sales to new customers, you
obtain a good estimate of how much a visitor is worth on the
first visit.

In other words, let's assume you're selling an item with a $25
profit margin. If 10% of the web site visitors buy your product,
then each visitor is worth $2.50 to you ($25.00 X 10% = $2.50).
If you can bid $2.50 or less for each click-through of the
keyword phrase, then you are profiting on each conversion or sale.

Another way to look at this is in terms of your click-through
and conversion rates. Let's suppose we have a click-through rate
of 5% and a conversion rate of 10% versus the ad click-throughs.
We will use the same $25.00 profit margin.

1,000 impressions X 5% click-through = 50 potential customers
50 potential customers X 10% conversion = 5 actual customers
5 actual customers X $25.00 profit margin = $125.00 profit
$125.00 profit / 50 potential customers = $2.50 per click
(maximum bid)

Have you noticed how important it is to know the value you of a
keyword phrase or visitor? Without these guidelines, you are
bidding in the dark and asking for trouble. It is imperative
that you be able to estimate your maximum bid prices to be
successful in your pay-per-click campaign!

Task number nine, the final task, is planning how you will
measure your campaign results versus the goals, objectives and
targets you established. You should review if you have the
proper structure and tools on your web site to capture the
information for the measurements.

For example, do you have access to your web logs? Do you have
web analytic tools? What types of data do they capture and
analyze? Do you have a web site page that will define a
conversion? It might be the order confirmation page from your
web site shopping cart or the e-mail subscription confirmation
page.

Perhaps this seems like a substantial amount of work for
planning your pay-per-click campaign. But, look at the results
of good and poor projects in any personal or business environment.
At the foundation of their success or failure was a well or
poorly conceived plan. Take the extra steps. Make the
additional effort. Your success will be rewarded with a cost
effective, high ROI pay-per-click promotion campaign without
breaking your bank account!

6 Things to Increase Your Affiliate Income

So you've signed up for affiliate programs, posted links around the
net but you're still only making pocket change? Wonder what others
are doing that you aren't? Below you will find 6 things that every
affiliate marketer needs to increase their income.

#1 - Your own Website:

Build a website to promote the product. Make sure it has its own paid
for domain name (yourproduct.com), not a free site like
(yourproduct.othersitename.com). If you don't know how to build a
website there are lots of places that offer simple site builders or
you could choose to have someone build a site for you.

#2 - Write reviews:

You need to know your product and preferable use it yourself so that
you can write honest reviews about it. What better way to promote a
product and get people to believe it's great than to say you use it
too? Post these reviews on your website, in your newsletters,
articles and any other site you visit that gives you an opportunity
to do so.

#3 - Use a Blog:

I recommend that you get a Blog and link back and forth to your
website. This will allow you to create discussions on the blog about
the product you are selling and list any updates to your regular
website. Active Blogs are indexed quicker by many search engines than
are new sites, and after the blog is indexed, the pages you have
linked to the blog will also get indexed.

#4 - Write Articles:

One of the best ways to become an expert on your product is to write
articles on the Internet and include a link to your website in the
resource box. There is a plethora of places to submit articles and
the more you write, the more people will trust what you are saying.
You get more exposure, more people coming to your website; more click
thorough of your affiliate link to purchase the product thus making
you more money.

#5 - Put your links in your signature lines:

Never allow a sale to pass you by! If you are a member of even one
forum, you need to have your affiliate link in your signature line.
It's free advertisement and you never know who will see it and click
through to check out your product.

#6 - Use Links instead of banners or buttons:

Due to the overwhelming amount of pop-ups and flashy text that we get
each time we visit a website, people have learned to block out these

Make Your Home Business Choice Carefully And Then Really Work It!

Once you have made your choice, the two most important things are
to stay focused and not to get discouraged...it takes a long time
to become an overnite success!

I've had many active and enthusiastic business team members that
were their own worst enemies because they exhibited the classic
"flea on a griddle" behavior pattern and jumped around chasing
one business opportunity today, and then another one tomorrow
without ever putting in enough sustained and focused effort to
reasonably give themselves a chance to succeed at any of them.

I can really relate to this situation since I briefly fell prey
to this same "dog in a meat market" syndrome when I first started
my own home based business a few years ago. I caught myself
trying to chase several different opportunities at once and not
being very successful with any of them.

There are so many home business opportunities (some real, some
not) that it takes real personal discipline to avoid the
scattergun approach...you know, throw enough against the wall
and something is bound to stick. In the early going, it is
really important to resist this temptation and to stay tightly
focused on a single business.

Some will argue that "I don't want to have all my eggs in one
basket". To those people I say, diversification is fine, but
only after you have achieved solid success with your initial
business. A premature attempt at diversification will quite
likely cause a loss of focus and actually slow down your
success rate.

If your main marketing vehicle is a website, you can fairly
easily leverage your initial success and effectively promote a
few other complimentary and closely related home based business
propositions from the same website.

However, it is important not to go overboard and offer too many
choices to visitors to your website. If you do, there is a good
chance of confusing your visitors to the point where they will
take no action and you have, in effect, diluted the effectiveness
of your website.

Whatever you decide to do, you will need to stick with it for a
reasonable length of time (give it at least one year) and put in
a solid and sustained effort. Stay focused and don't get
discouraged. As much as you would like it to be, starting and
developing a real home based business is certainly not an instant
gratification situation.

5 Lightning Fast Ways To Build Content That Sells

The golden rule of the internet marketer is that "Content
is KING." It always has been and it always will be.
Especially if you're an affiliate, good content is your
best friend! But, there's a huge problem!

Do you really want to sit at your computer and just type
content all day long? I doubt it, I sure don't. So, here
are 7 ways to get great content - fast.

1. Public Domain Works

Works in the public domain are not protected by copyright
laws. They can be freely copied, changed, edited,
reprinted, distributed, and sold. Some public domain
sources, like most U.S. government publications, have never
been copyrighted. For others, the copyright has expired.

2. Famous and Funny Quotations

Compiling quotations is a dead easy, completely overlooked
method of creating short web pages that can suck in
thousands of visitors a day. These are pages that no search
engine will ever penalize. And visitors are likely to
bookmark those quotation pages and return to them later.

All you need to do is a bit of research through websites,
beats writing all day long!

3. Definitions

Every hobby, industry, or profession has its own
vocabulary. That's often frustrating for outsiders who
wonder what the yada-yada those geeks are talking about.

So why not help your readers actually understand what
you're saying by offering definitions on your web site?
Simple definitions can give you a massive competitive edge
over competitors with higher search engine rankings. Why? A
definition is exactly the type of content that everyday web
searchers are always looking for.

4. Directory Pages

Someone comes to your website because they are interested
in a topic - I bet they'd love it if you can send them to
other related websites too! Well, wait, why would YOU want
to send traffic away? Not exactly.

Directory pages are great for search engines, they get high
rankings - so make sure to stuff your own adds all around
them. Quick way to build content, get great link partners,
get search engine optimized and get exposure to your ads!

5. Other People's Content
Why in the world waste time writing when there are
literally thousands of writers out there BEGGING you to
place their article on your website. I just recently built
a 1000 page website in about 3 days using OTHER people's
content from online directories.

Check out www.goarticles.com and www.arciticlecity.com -
those articles are available for re-printing on your
website. Just make sure to give the author the credit.

That's it - lightning fast content! Now you have no excuse
to not make many large content websites that all get great
search engine rankings, free visitors and lots of sales!

Have you ever sat in front of your computer and wished you
could show someone else what appeared on your screen?

Maybe you were experiencing a problem, or couldn't figure
out how to make something work, but you knew if someone
else could see what was happening on your screen, they
could help you fix the problem immediately.

Ever had a phone conversation with someone about a
particular business topic, but you just couldn't "connect"
with your ideas because it was too hard to explain over the
phone?

Now, visualize jumping on the phone with that same person
and literally sharing your computer's desktop to
collaborate, discuss, and create virtually anything
together, even if you are separated by thousands of miles.

Though this may sound like an episode of Star Trek, remote
computer sharing is actually a daily business reality.

Imagine you need to take a trip and you either don't want
to or can't take your computer.

The thought of emails piling up for days makes you crazy
and you also need to monitor some things on your pc.

Instead of trying to lug your laptop (or fit your desktop
into your suitcase), you can use "remote desktop" software
that allows you to access your computer through the
Internet from any other computer in the world.

One of the most common remote desktop services is
GoToMyPC.com, which provides a safe and secure way for you
to go down to the local internet café, log on, and access
your office or home computer just like sitting at your own
desk.

Now, before you panic and think anyone can access your
computer, let me explain security.

First, you log in to the GoToMyPC.com website with a
username and password.

Once logged in, you then click a link to log onto your PC,
which will then ask you for another password.

GoToMyPC.com has even thought of a solution for those of
you worried about people looking over your shoulder as you
enter your passwords on a public computer or if the
computer you use might carry a keystroke logger.

Before leaving home, you can program in a series of up to
99 passwords that only work one time.

This means even if someone watches you log into your
computer or records your keystrokes, the password you used
won't work again.

If a would-be thief tries to access your computer too many
times, GoToMyPC.com will shut down all access attempts to
your PC.

The benefits of remotely accessing your PC from the road
are numerous, but the bottom line is that it enables you to
use your computer from the road like you never left home.

For example: while traveling to a conference this weekend,
my wife (and business partner) accessed our office computer
from my laptop and, instead of the usual pile of 4,000
emails that would normally await after 5 days away, we just
picked up this morning like we'd never been gone.

The same company that offers GoToMyPC.com also offers a
service called GoToMeeting.com which allows you to remotely
host a meeting where multiple users can share and
collaborate on a single computer desktop.

This service makes it super simple to provide online
training, do software demos, and even make complete sales
presentations.

I personally use both of these services and find them easy,
reliable and well worth the price.

People often ask me, "exactly what do I do first to start a home
business? I have an idea for my business, but I don't know what
to do first, then what to do next." Getting started can be the
hardest part for some. The articles in this series will take you
through the first steps needed to start a home business.

Setting up a new home based business is simple if you know what
to do. Today you will learn how to create the business entity,
legally register it with your local government or tax collector
and be able to pay for services and get paid for yours.

First of all, your business must have a name. Check with your
local government for their policies regarding fictitious business
name registration. You can create your business as a sole
proprietorship to make this set up process as easy as possible.
In the future you will want to consider incorporating your
business for liability and tax reasons. Get a qualified
professional to help you when you decide to incorporate.

Now that you have a registered name to operate your business
under, it is time to get the required licenses for running a
small business out of your home from your local government
office. An occupational license or business permit may be
required by your city, county or state, possibly by all three.
Make sure you satisfy all of your legal obligations with local
government before continuing with your home business set up.

With your fictitious name registration and business licenses in
hand, it's time to visit your local bank. Set up a small business
checking account under your business name with you as a
registered signer. Get a starter account for now, then upgrade
later when you need more features. Make the initial deposit from
your personal checking account and label the check "loan to (your
business name)". To process incoming checks you will need an
endorsement stamp to mark the back of each check for deposit. Go
to your local print shop and order a self-inking endorsement
stamp that prints this information:

- For Deposit Only
- (your business name)
- (business account number)

Following Step 1, you will now have set up your home business and
can process payments. If you will be operating on the internet,
go to PayPal.com and set up a business account. You can use your
business checking account and a company credit card as payment
sources for your PayPal account. Then you can accept PayPal
payments from others and make purchases online without having to
give out your credit card or bank account information.

In Step 2 of this series, you will learn how to set up a simple
internet marketing system that will include a web site, lead
generation and email follow up, as well as a credit card
processing system for your sales.

Finding Keywords Straight From The Bank...

I still remember the day I read about this strategy in an
excellent newsletter and was blown away. I went straight to
my computer and started using what I learned and I was
amazed at how much money I made!

I had found golden keywords straight from the bank - or at
least ones that went straight TO my bank!

What keywords? MISspelled keywords. That's right - I
actually found profit in something people are doing
"wrong." Any time someone spells a word wrong on the
internet, I stand to make a hefty profit!

What are misspelled keywords?

Misspelled keywords are words that are frequently
misspelled by searchers on search engines. An example would
be to type "intrenet" instead of "internet" - you would be
surprised as to how many times misspelled keywords appear.

Why to use them?

Misspelled keywords can be very profitable because there is
little competition against them and they still bring very
targeted traffic. Optimize for them because others likely
are not. Also, use pay per click with them because most
other are not!

What are some of the advantages?

There are many advantages of using misspelled keywords,
here are a few:

1. Little competition - most are focusing on the
competitive "correct spelling."
2. High searches - most make the same spelling mistake and
many make the mistake so you still have a high number of
searches.

3. Easier to work with - because of less competition these
words are easier to optimize for.

4. Cheaper - you can buy pay per click traffic on these
keywords for far less (more on this later).

5. Still targeted traffic - you are still getting highly
targeted traffic.
Where and how to find them?

One of the best ways is to just sit down with your list of
keywords and to think of any possible misspelling possible.
Also, you can go to keyword search tools like the one at
Overture,
http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ac/index.jhtml and
see what the most common errors are repeating themselves.
We also suggest a program called Wordtracker,
http://www.AffiliateClassroom.com/Keywords. This is a far
better tool than the one offered by Overture.

How to optimize for them?

The same way you do for any normal keyword. Make sure that
the keyword appears in it is misspelled form through your
content, in your meta tags and in incoming links to your
website. Optimizing for a misspelled keyword is no
different than optimizing for regular keywords - just
easier :)

Using Pay Per Click with misspelled keywords

Make sure to add as many misspellings as you can possibly
find into your pay per click campaigns. For a keyword that
costs you over a dollar or more per click, you may very
well pay 5-10 cents a click for the misspelling.

Although more and more people are discovering this strategy
and bidding up the misspelled keywords as well, there are
still some golden nuggets there.

If you're one of those affiliates who makes their money by
running Google Adword campaigns - I have just told you
something that can seriously double your income by
tomorrow. Take all of your campaigns, one at a time and
find all the possible misspelled keywords you can find.
Test them like you do with everything else.

Can You Survive In An Online World?

Do you have the skills to make it in a computer driven,
increasingly online world?

Your immediate, knee-jerk reaction may be "Yes! Of course I
have the skills."

"I know how to send and receive email and surf the web."

"I can even download and install files."

Well, three or four years ago, email, Web surfing and
downloading files qualified you as "electronically
literate," but not any more! Computer and online survival
skills now encompass much more than that.

Surviving in an online world involves maintaining a high
degree of "electronic literacy," which means focusing on
and developing skills in the following areas:


** Personal Computer skills **

In the old days of 1998, the ability to use a computer,
keyboard and mouse rated anyone as computer-literate.

In fact, you were a real pro if you could burn a CD, scan
documents and manipulate digital pictures.

Fast forward to today and "personal computer skills"
carries a whole new meaning. You must know how to maintain
and update not only anti-virus, but "anti-spyware," and
firewall software too.

You also need to understand how operating with Windows ME,
or 2000, or XP will affect your ability to use certain
software along with specific security precautions to avoid
trouble from hackers.


** Internet Skills **

In the bygone era of 1998, friends considered you an online
genius if you possessed basic surfing and navigation
skills.

They watched in awe as you used search engines like
InfoSeek.com (a long-defunct search engine) to find and
download programs, pictures, and information on specific
topics.

Now electronic literacy means the ability to set up,
upload, and maintain basic web pages and blogs.

It also means understanding terms such as "RSS" and "news
aggregator" because that's the next generation of how
information will get disseminated online (and it arrives
for the masses this year).


** Email Skills **

Perhaps the most deceptively simple of all the areas of
electronic literacy, email actually presents the most
challenges for keeping up with the times.

Previously, clicking the "send and receive" button meant
you were proficient at using email.

Now, because of spam, viruses and "phishing scams"
(identity theft schemes delivered through email), email
requires a whole new set of skills, "street smarts" and
software just to survive.

You must understand how to use an email "preview" program
such as MailWasher.net to eliminate spam and virus email
messages before they ever reach your computer.

You also must learn to protect your identity and avoid
"phishing scams" by learning to recognize and defend
against online con-artist tactics.


** Buy or Borrow Expertise **

Though you should constantly upgrade your skills through
personal education, nobody can do or know it all (except
maybe your know-it-all bother in law).

The good news is that you can always buy or borrow someone
else's expertise to solve any online challenge.

A prime example of outsourcing in the consumer market is
all the little stores popping up in strip malls to help you
sell your stuff on eBay.

Through outsourcing, online survival skills can also mean
taking what was previously the exclusive realm of computer
geeks and making it as easy as dropping off the dry
cleaning.

"PPC ClickFraud: It's a Bigger Problem then You Think"

Pay per click search engine advertising is one of the
most popular ways to promote a website. With Overture
and Google leading the pack, the industry as a whole
has grown immensely in the past few years. According
to a report by PriceWaterHouseCoopers, they estimate
that Internet Advertising brought in more than $9
billion in 2004 alone.

With PPC advertising you choose "keywords/phrases,"
then bid how much you'd like to pay for each click.
When a searcher goes to a search engine and types
in one of your keyphrases, your short text ad appears,
and if they click on it your account is then charged.
In a "perfect world" this is the way it would work,
but thanks to unscrupulous people, there's a dirty
little secret known as "click fraud."

Click fraud is simply the act of clicking on ads
for the direct purpose of costing the advertiser
money. It's similar to paying out cash for false
leads. According to InternetWeek.com, 60% of those
who responded to a survey conducted by the "Search
Engine Professional Organization" had stated that
fraud is a problem when it comes to PPC advertising.

So where does click fraud come from? Well, there
are actually a few different sources:

1) AdSense Users: Google Adsense has a program
called "Adsense" that pays website owners to
run their Adwords ads and compensates them per
click. Google does monitor this and it's against
their terms of service to click on any of the
ads on your own site. If they find a publishers
doing this, they will lose their accounts, but
some may still be clicking under the radar.


2) Your Competitors: Your competitors could be
clicking on your ads over a period of several
days in order to deplete your ad budget.


3) Software: There are those who use automated
clicking tools, such as robot programs, to
click on PPC listings.


In some Asian countries, people are often paid to
click on PPC ads for hours. Many don't know why
they do it, and don't care, only that they'll be
well rewarded for their efforts. If you do a search
on any search engine you'll see plenty of sites
looking to hire people for just this purpose. For

Most PPC networks have measures in place to protect
you against click fraud. Overture tracks more than
50 data points, including IP addresses, browser info,
users' session info and what they call "pattern

place for detecting fraud and a specialized team
that monitors things and works with the advertisers
to stop it.

Google offers suggestions to avoid click thru fraud,
such as "using negative keywords" to keep your ads
from showing up for products and services that are
unrelated. They also suggest adding tracking url's
to your links so you can track the traffic coming
from Google. An easy way to do this is to add a ?
to your links along with the identifier. For example,
a tracking link to identify Google would look like
this:

http://www.yourdomain.com/?referer-google

If you go through your log files, you'll be able to
see your Google traffic at a glance.

If you suspect fraud, Google asks that you contact
them right away, as they have a team of researchers
that will investigate. They also take action to block
future impressions from anyone they identify as
committing click fraud. Like Overture, they also have
"proprietary technology" that distinguishes between
normal clicks and invalid ones. Google never bills
you for any "bad clicks" that are caught by their
system.

So what's an honest website owner to do? You need
to be alert to any "suspicious activity" by
researching your server logs or stats. If you're
experiencing a lot of clicks and no sales you'll
also want to take a closer look. You need to watch
for any spikes in traffic, usually on one keyword
or phrase and coming from only one PPC source. You
need to measure and track all of your PPC accounts
closely.

If this sounds like too much work, you may want to
look at an outside service to take care of it for
you. A variety of new services have opened recently
to help combat the click fraud problem.

1) Keyword Max: http://www.KeyWordMax.com

Offers up a service called "Click Auditor," which
monitors the activity on your PPC accounts and
alerts you to any suspicious activity. You can
request a free demo at the site.

2) Click Detective: http://ClickDetective.net

A website monitoring service that uses sophisticated
tracking mechanisms to determine whether "visitor
behavior" is normal or not. Offering a 15 day free
trial. Easy to use, you just copy and paste a snippet
of code on your page and add a campaign ID by logging
into your account.

3) Click Assurance: http://ClickAssurance.com

An Internet Security Firm that specializes in click
fraud. They will audit your PPC accounts and go
after any refunds you are due because of fraud.

4) Who's Clicking Who: http://WhosClickingWho.com

An independent auditing service that tracks individual
users for fraud. Can also detect abuse coming from
proxy servers. A one month subscription is
$79.00, which includes free installation and up to
50,000 transactions per month.

5) ClickLab: http://ClickLab.com/products/click-fraud

This service isolates bad clicks with a scorecard
based detection system. Pricing starts at $50.00
per month and is based on the number of sites you
need to track and their page views.

ClickLab also has a nice white paper you should
download while visiting: "How to Defend Your Website
Against Click Fraud."

Click fraud isn't going away anytime soon. If
anything, it will probably get worse before it
get's any better. It's up to you as a vigilant
website owner to do what you can to keep your
PPC advertising costs down. You can't stop it,
but with the right tracking in place, it can be
managed and controlled, and hopefully kept to a
minimum.
